EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

KA-BAR Large Dozier. FRN and AUS8
This is the husky version of the Dozier. Blade is 3 1/2" long and 0.156" thick. 59HRC.

But the D2 is a still a step up in edge retention from the AUS8, which they also ran soft. (2023 Catalog claims a hardness of 56 for the AUS8. AUS 8 at a hardness of 59 is usually preferable, but according to their metallurgist, they were aiming for toughness with the original RATs because they were originally intended as outdoor knives, rather than EDC. )
I run both the D2 and AUS 8 versions with a 20 DPS primary bevel, and they're good to go.

Both RAT 1 & RAT 2 S35VN knives and the Magnacut RAT 1.5 are a step up from the D2. They feel much crisper on the sharpening stones.
Their 2023 catalog claims a nominal hardness of 59 for the S35VN, and that seems accurate to me. I've not seen a hardness for the 1.5, but it feels very crisp.
I run a primary bevel of 15 DPS on the S35VN and the Magnacut versions, and they shine in everyday use.

Of the three models, I still like the RAT 1 best. I wish they'd do a Magnacut version on that one.

Somehow I missed your reply last Friday. Thanks for all that. D2 is a great steel for working knives. It takes a bit more effort to sharpen at the higher hardness of my 710's, say, but holds a good working edge for a long time after losing that fresh-off-the-stones apex, as it doesn't seem to roll, and is plenty tough enough for hard use. As the RAT version is softer, I'm glad I went with the S35VN.

My son's knife is sitting, waiting for his b-day next month, but mine's at my PO as I write. I think I may just try that 15 DPS on mine, maybe with a 20° micro-bevel, when I can find a little time to get my EdgePro out. I'm looking forward to putting that one to work.
 
Mornin guys. Hope it's a good day for everyone. My mini Ritter Grip was clipped to my back pocket yesterday and as I came out of the truck, it pushes against the seat and flew out onto the pavement and landed open. Luckily, the landing made just the tiniest shiny spot on the edge, very easy to fix.
