Going in reverse again, covering our time in Vermont....

Starting last Thursday I had my old combo-edged AUS8 decked out in the Red RAT scales in pocket, headed out our woods road to the back of our lower acreage with the County Forester in the Ranger. We walked along our back line, heading downhill to the bottom of that property through our northern hardwoods stand to the creek then made our way back up that 30% grade to the Polaris. It was only a few hundred yard trek back up that slope as we meandered back and forth, checking out the nicely mature sugar maple and ash, the latter really needing to be harvested ahead of the coming onslaught of emerald ash borers. It was slow going over the uneven forest floor, we were glad to get back to our ride, and headed back out to the town road and up its unmaintained section to check out the stocking and maturity in our upper woodlot and to take in the view from our hilltop meadow.

Summer pic from some years ago.

Later, back down at camp, I got some pics of a couple RATS hanging out in the woodshed.
