EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

Wilson Combat Wooden Wednesday with the Extreme Light Carry in N690 with Cocobolo Starburst scales. Despite the fact that it was made by Fox knives in Maniago, Italy, commissioned and branded by an American gun maker, I always think of this as my Spanish knife as I bought it from an old school cutlery shop in Barcelona on a family vacation.

Nice! I just spent the better part of a day resurrecting one of these.

Wow, what a beautiful piece!!
Thanks, Mitch. I do really like that one too. I had earlier fallen in love with Wilson Combat Starburst pattern knives when I'd just missed an Umnumzaan I wanted on the Exchange and bought the WC Startac version which showed up there soon after. I had gone through some inner debate on that purchase vis-a-vis the additional cost, but was instantly glad I pulled the trigger upon receipt.

In 2016 we traveled to Barcelona with our 3 grown sons who were then in their 20's and 30's and rented a penthouse apartment overlooking the harbor. (Nice, but not nearly as elegant as it sounds.). I was looking to buy a Spanish knife and had stopped in a few knife shops, finding both those with touristy junk and others that didn't have anything that interested me. We found the Ganiveteria Roca in the Placa del Pi, that shop exactly 100 years old at the time, which featured knives of many sorts, barbering and shaving gear, kitchen and dining ware, and sharpening gear. I didn't find anything Spanish that interested me, but the fluted Cocobolo knife really caught my eye. We bought a small Viper with a feather-imbedded handle for my wife too. It didn't even quite register to me that I'd bought a Wilson Combat knife until we got back to our digs.

Ironically, while we were there in Barcelona, I was scanning BF, found what's now my WC LG Eagle that you're familiar with on the Exchange, and made arrangements with the seller to get him the funds on my return to the States. That trip turned out to be a real Wilson Combat acquisition event, yielding what's now 40% of my stock of those knives.

Anyway, I've got another version of that same WC/Fox knife as a Ti frame lock which I'll carry tomorrow. In the meantime, here's another shot of the wooden-scaled ELC...

Wow, great job there! What happened to that poor thing and how'd you come across it to become its savior?

Thank you. It's not perfect, but it's much better. Really couldn't show all the juicy stuff here without posting a ton of pics and clogging the works. Here's more: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/the-“can’t-leave-anything-alone”-thread.1660973/post-23529242

Fifteenish years ago I purchased it from WC and gave it to my brother for Christmas. He happened to it! lol

My youngest son, now 37, is like that. He's into knives more than my other two, though both of them carry, but he uses them hard and doesn't really spend any time maintaining them. That birthday S35VN RAT I put together for him a month or so ago with Micarta scales, deep carry clip, and lanyard looks like it's a couple years old now. When he's here, I'll take his knife away, clean it up, adjust it, and sharpen the edge before returning. My buddy that I've gifted a couple and have been his buying agent on another, is even harder on his blades. I rehabbed one for him that looked like it had been used to cut concrete blocks. "What did you do to this poor thing?" "Oh, nuthin'--just used it is all..."

Well, he and I have almost the same exact dynamic, age checks out. My brother is 39. Is your son my brother? Dad??? 😂

It makes me happy to see a gift serve well. Even happier to breath some new life into them for another round of torture. Plus, I got my money's worth. Win, win, win. :)
