"EDC" - Your Interpretation?

I carry a knife almost everyday but not the same knife and sometimes more than one knife. I have a few small folders that I rotate on a pretty consistent basis. These are my EDC knives. Sometimes I don't carry a knife at all but I carry often enough to loosely label it "everyday".

I have larger folders and fixed blades that only get used/carried during camping or other events. I would not consider them EDC's.

Definately 2 and 3 for me. I have a couple of bigger tac folders that I rotate, but have at leastone of them on me from the time I wake up until I go to bed. These switch between a RJ Martin Devastator (my current), and a Hinderer Firetac Extreme, (at Ricks getting some attention)..........At the same time I always carry a second knife, a 2nd edc, in my left front pocket to do small tasks or to lend out if someone asks for a knife to borrow. This one is a SAK by V.

EDC means to me one of several knives in my drawer that I reach into and randomly select to carry that day ;) Generally speaking a small to medium folder. I work in an office, so that limits what I edc. My edc "rotation" consists of SAK Bantam Alox, Sportsman II; Syderco Delica, Calypso Jr.; old Barlow jackknife,

Number 4. is probably the closest fit for me. I've sort of narrowed down the knives I regularly carry in my pocket every day, Calypso Jnr. for city clothes and Strider SnG for the jeans.

I do have others that are generally with me at various times although they might not often get used.

The office drawer has a Spyderco Native in it.
The car has a Spyderco SPOT and usually a Meerkat in it.
The truck has the Beretta folder.
My keyring has the Ladybug.

Also my M1 Waistpack is usually with me and this has a Chive, Micra, Swisscard and, of course, the Sebenza in it.

I guess these could be considered EDCs in one way or another.

#4 would fit my EDC description - knowing what the day and night has install and choosing the right cuttlery for the job.
Monday - Friday working hours, I can normaly get away with something smaller - Cal Jr is normally suffice. If I require something a lot more substantial, new favourite is the Chinnook II. For an all day and night carry and I like something that carries well, a toss up between the Rat Trap and 710HS. On weekends, a leatherman charge Ti is always handy and I bring out the big choppers, camp tramp or natural outlaw when heading bush.

My definition is what I carry on a daily basis and that changes with the type of day I'll be having and might even change throughout the day, I do have multiple EDC's but I have a standard selection I pick from.

These are blades I feel are the best for what they do out of my collection.

Y'know, it never occurred to me before but, when I think of the term "EDC", I actually think of the action/verb that it refers to - carrying a knife on a daily basis. So, I choose option #5  This one states "EDC means daily carrying a knife, from waking until sleeping; the specific knife may or may not vary, dependent on situation." Well, that's basically how it goes, at least :p

In conjunction with this, options 1 and 2 most closely describe the way I look at the right tool for the job of daily carry. Oh, options 3 and 4 are also applicable :footinmou :D

I understand EDC as the kind of knife that's by your side all the time, as oposed to perhaps more specialized knives. For example, when I'm in a city I always have a SAK in my pocket, when I'm in my beloved mountains a fixed blade is always on my belt.
A couple of days ago I was just wandering in the forest, I had a wooden handled mora and a big bowie knife. The first day I carried the bowie, it's very nice with stag handles and all, but for the next few days I carried the mora on my belt and the bowie stayed in my pack, I only took it out to chop a couple of times. So, in this case I would consider the mora my EDC.
I do believe that EDCs can be rotated and adapted to different environments. there are knives that you can't carry (or don't need) in a city, but are a must outdoors.
I also have a mood factor when choosing the kind of knife I'll take that day, there are some days when I want to be minimalistic, and take just a Vic soldier or an Opinel. Some other days (today for example) I carry a multitool, a SAK and a bigger folder. It really depends on how I feel.

#3 & #4 work for me. Actually this is #4 but I have some EDC knives for each #4 combination so this is a combination of both cases. For example, I always have with me a rather old Wenger (like Vic Tinker), one large forlder and somethimes multi-tool (depends on environment).

I carry at least one knife everyday. For me the one I carry usually depends on the season. During hunting season I'll have one bigger usually with an upswept blade for skinning. For summer days when I'm prone to be fishing or spending time outside I'll chose others like a nice thin profile knife or my new Catcherman from Spyderco.

An edc knife for me has to meet certain criteria. It has to be able to do the things I like doing with a knife. Carve wood, slice fruits and veges and maybe fill in as a steak knife, open bags or boxes without damage to the edge, cut tape, open packages stuff like that.

As an added bonus it is nice to have one that will also suffice as a back up for my gun in the event of the need for self defense but that really is a minor issue to me that I don't think about much. I also like my edc to be accepted well in public and not draw too much attention but I realize that no matter what you carry there are some out there that think anyone with a knife is just looking for trouble so anymore I don't give much thought to politically correct issues.

1, 4 and 5 for me.

To me an EDC is a knife that not only it fulfills my daily cutting needs, but also an accessory that is eye pleasing and will grow on its owner in time. Mine is a Spyderco SS Kiwi.

It's tempting for me to have a rotation of knives for EDC but I like the idea of keeping only the essentials, having one knife makes me cherish it more. If I see a new knife that I like it so much, I always tend to get rid of the old one first before I get the new model.

Depends on situatuion, I EDC a fixed blade when I am in the woods - the mentality from the above still applies to the fixed blade situation, my current one is a Benchmade Outbounder.

Multi tools includling the SAKs are tools in my definition. I carry them when I am in outdoor situations like hiking or camping, with my EDC knives, while I don't EDC them.

Razorback, I've thought alot about a small fixed. I've finally ordered both the Mini and Mikro Canadian. Gonna give them a try and report back.
