EDCi and ZDP-189

Been using EDCI on A11 Mule for over a year with good results! I apply a quick application once a week when in use, Mostly on RV trips! My Bottle (couple years old) doesn't have food safe anywhere on label!
Very cool. I use it on any stainless I have, even food knives. What I do is spread out a good few drops all over a blade and spine of the tang and let it sit for 5-10 minutes then wipe the excess off and let that set overnight. Then I take a polishing cloth and while I do my morning YouTubing spend 30 minutes or so getting a nice polish on them and it’s done. Legit makes everything easier. The great part is it will seal if you wipe away. Then, on my folders and autos I just drop a liberal amount into the action and don’t wipe. One big perk on joints and springs and stuff is it’s resistant to very high heat and repels water and dirt wayyy better then say a mineral oil, that seems to attract fix and garbage into the joints.

Tuf-Glide is awesome for me but I see where people don’t like it cause way more expensive when compared to other tool oil.

Even used it on a nice outdoor hinge that gets abused by heat and water constantly and tuf glide once did what wd-40 once a week did but no runny mess on the door. They sell a small pen version with a pocket clip and if you are careful you can do an entire collection and have some leftover.

IIRC the rumor was that EDCI is actually coconut oil..
-EDCi .. I had to look that up. That stuff is interesting, says all the right stuff on the exterior to make me want some. And coconut oil? Lol, is that what it smells like? That’s pretty neat nonetheless.

I mean, it would make sense. Coconut oil, beezwax... a coating. It'd be food safe in that case, too. Probably that with some other ingredients, if it works, it works, though.

I have 2 fullish bottles of EDCI on my desk at home but in the end usually use WD-40..

I think the appeal of the (non) foodsafe types of dealers/inhibitors is that it’s a semi-permanent solution. Aside from sharpening and exposing new steel it says on through use and watching and bonds to the metals. The knives I’ve cut food with it applied haven’t made me sick or anything but I cut fresh fruit and that kinda thing and it and the knive is washed before and after.

Far be it from me to tell you what to do, but I will tell you why I wouldn't do it, because that eventually can gather and gunk your pivots and stuff, moreso than other stuff.

Yes, there are some knives which I am not going to be using on food which this kind of thing would be great for. I just don't wanna bathe myself in the stuff or anything.

“Water Displacer; formulation 40” would look about a million times cooler on the label the what they settled on ultimately.. lol. Love me some WD-40 too though.
