Does anyone have any experience with Eddie Bauer Sleeping Bags?
I've been looking at one that is supposedly rated down to 0 degrees.
Thanks!

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

I can't speak to EB's current gear quality. Is this bag part of their gear line that is being marketed through Target stores? Allow me to request more specifics on the bag you've got in mind so it can best be compared to similar models from other makers: model name or number, fill weight, fill type(if down, fill loft/oz), total weight, packed size, and your primary environment/use for the bag.

In general, I like Wiggy's for synthetic bags. My personal bag is his Super Light (0-degree, 4 pounds total weight, somewhat bulky when packed but WARM) in a lovely OD color. ;) For goose down, the companies I would recommend are The North Face and also Feathered Friends. The bags from FF are delightfully light & very well made according to friends who've owned & used them.

A bag from TNF has proven very durable for me. It is a TNF Superlight model (5-degree bag IIRC, very light & compressible) that saw daily service for over 20 years, both on my bed at home as a duvet and while camping out in the Alps, Rockies, and SW US desert. Then it got a few years off after springing a small draft tube leak & suffering some clumping of the down due to what I suspect are torn internal hood baffles. And now it is back in service as a roasty-toasty couch cover-up in our family room, seeing pretty much daily usage again.

Thanks for the reply!
Yes, this is one of the bags that Eddie Bauer has at the Target stores. My main reason for looking at this bag, is that it's only 70 bucks. The fill is synthetic. I don't remember what brand/kind of fill is, though. It is a fairly large bag, and I will mostly be using it for camping in the Sierra's and the surrounding areas.

Thanks!

Jeff

Don't forget a good sleeping pad if youare going to be camping in 0degree weather. I have no experience w/ the EB bag, but I would listen to the others and save your pennies. Look for gear from some bigger companies from last year at discount prices. already mentioned but Campmor a Sierra Trader are excellent sources. I have had good experience w/ both. Personally I would look for a synthetic fill bag(polarguard3D,etc.)- because they will keep you warm even when drenched w/ water, unlike down which will lose all warmth retention properties when wet. Down fill is lighter and more packable though. Some respectable companies that I have had good experience w/ are Sierra Designs, Mountain Hardwear, Marmot, REI, TNF, etc. Hope this might help.:D
