I just wanted to chime in about a very bright 3 LED flashlight sold at Target stores for $25 under the Eddie Bauer name called the Triplex E-Light. According to the package, these lights are made in China (I know, what isn't these days?) and are marketed by Coast Cutlery. These are basically rebadged LEDLenser lights produced by a German company called Zweibrüder Optoelectronics. Under the LEDLenser name, it's called the V2 Triplex. Reading a review of the Ledlenser lights on CPF and the LED Museum made me want to see one of these lights for myself and I ended up buying one so I thought I'd share my impressions of it.
The flashlight runs on 3 alkaline N cells which operate 3 LED bulbs that are recessed into the head of the unit. There is no reflector, just a chrome painted plastic piece within the head. The body has a has robust feel and looks very attractive thanks to the matte powder coated finish. It's a really smooth finish which can be a problem if you have wet hands, but comfortable to hold. After I bought it, I took it home, went into a dark room and lit it up to compare it against other lights in my collection. It is surprisingly bright for a 3 LED flashlight. It's much brighter than my PT Attitude and Lightwave 2000. In fact is it practically as bright as my new Inova X5T (My original Inova X5 is slightly brighter). Probably has to do with the chrome finish paint on the plastic housing giving it that extra reflective boost. Fit and finish is very good for a China made flashlight, but it is on the hefty side. I wouldn't want to be whacked on the head with it!
I really would have liked to see a recessed on/off botton so it could not be accidentally activated in the pocket or pack. Also, the the rubbery material used for the button feels flimsy, but should it come loose and get lost, there is a replacement "botton cover" located in the tailcap of the light. It would have also been nice if Coast Cutlery had included a pouch and lanyard for it the same way it's sold under the LEDLenser name, but that's no big issue.
Overall, I like it. It's not the top of the line by any means, but it's a very nice LED flashlight to add to ones collection.
