what is the factory angle of a Spyderco
knife?
I just found the angle of
my new Dyad-Jr (plain edge)
is larger than the angle set on
203 sharpener. Is that normal?
Do you keep the angle or thining it?
Thanks

Alan - Occassionaly that happens, my apologies. I would thin it to the 203 angle. Just sharpen as normal on the corner of the gray stone until the angle is thinner. If you are skilled enough, you can always thin it out on a coarse stone.

Sal what is the edge angle you shoot for on most of your knives? I know that styles are different but do you shoot for the same angle?

We shoot for 30 degrees inclusive with 38 degrees inclusive as the maximum. Since this is alwys done by hand, consistency is difficult, but for the most part possible. occassionally some come through at the wrong angle, although still very sharp.

I love the idea the Spyderco keeps (or tries to keep) the edge angle below that of the 203 sharpmaker. That means sharpening a Spyderco knife on a Spyderco sharpmaker should always be fairly easy. That satisfies my sense of balance.
