  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Edge angles, you have nothing to worry about

This is a good question as to whether the knife receives some kind of inspection such as eddy current testing before being returned.

Who knows. But I know that Busse would not send out something that was not finished correctly.

Yeah I don't really expect an answer I just wanted to agree that the process might not be as obvious as it might seem.

I concur, Busse won't send out shotty work, no worries there!!! It was just a curiousity thing, sometimes a list of reparis or invoice with procedures are included in warranty work. I am in no way saying Busse does this or should, just I have experienced this in the past from other vendors. Either way they did a terrific job making her look purdy ;)

I actually told Jerry personally that I do not expect repairs nor was I going to ask for it. He asked me to send him the knife to take a look at the damage and would fix it. So he warrantied my being an idiot which was very cool. But I did not nor do I think purposeful destruction should be warrantied. He said it risked it's life for the greater good, lol.

LOLOL, he wasn't wrong!!! we all learned some good info!!! I know I did!!! Its a beautiful blade before during and after. It had some serious salt there for a lil, but all better now.

I too was impressed the other day after I batonned all those logs about (12-15) with many being split 5-6x each with the boom parang that it was still taking hairs off my legs, and about a dozen strokes on each side of the strop brought it back to really sharp levels :) still factory edge too.

Well, it's funny because in the 90's 52100 was one of my favorite steels and it still is. Well now it's just called SR101, lol.

Cobalt --- if it hasn't been said enough yet --- is like to add to the chorus of praise. The fact that you're willing to test these and share the info --- is truly awesome of you. Way to make EVERYONE love their Busse/Bussekin knives even more!!

Rob thanks. We all do our part on this forum. Thanks to Jerry and his metallurgical genius, our wallets are all lighter :D

Survive knives will be using D3V for all new models after and including the 4.1 But I think there is only 1 out in the public with D3V with them so far. Aside that, no survive knife (so far) has the new protocol. So this must be regular 3V if its Survive knife (which i agree, it isn't a Carothers)

Oh fair! My mistake!
I could be wrong, but if I remember correctly, this was a pre-production "Delta 3v" Survive blade that made its way to Cobalt shortly after the new heat treatment was dialed in. So even though it is a Survive blade, it did have the latest heat treat for 3v.

The performance on both the 3v and the infi both look great. Very impressive.

Again, incorrect information be propagated here. Carothers sent the knife directly to me. Not that the knife somehow ended up in my hands. That's pure BS. The steel is CPM not joe schmoe, the blade may have been ground by GSO who knows, but that is irrelevant. Carothers heat treated it and put is his edge on it. We already went over this in the other thread on the general forum

Yes we did go over this in the general forum and you explained it all thoroughly.
But to be fair, you are quoting me from 5 years ago!

I see the charlatans at Perish Knives ;) ;) are no longer going to use the Delta heat treat, says more about them than the Heat Treat I would say.

Too 'spensive for them... :poop: 😂

Even if the blades were marked with the Delta, you'd never be able to trust that they truly were what they claimed to be.
