Cliff, that project lasted all semester last year. Just different grits of wet/dry sandpaper on a leather belt. I would come back, probably once a week, and work on it for different amounts of time. Really no way for me to know exactly how much time went into it, but I'd say in total hours, probably over 24. Really kind of crazy when I think about it, really should invest in a grinder, but being at school I have a lot more time than money.
The big problem was that I was using the wrong kind of sandpaper a lot of the time. At first, I just wanted to put a new edge on it, because the one from the factory was extremely thick and obtuse. Realistically, in a day I think I could do it with some 320 grit wet/dry (I think it's alligator grit or something by that name, just discovered it this summer--GREAT stuff) Same goes for my Battle Rat, a lot of time has gone into that too. I really enjoy doing it though, great sense of accomplishment when using it; that SRK cuts like none other now.
Thanks, Jeff
