Edge holding: Queen D2 and Case CV?

I'd suggest getting at least a medium or even a coarse grit diamond hone for reprofiling D2 -- even fine grit diamond hones are really slow when you have a fair amount of D2 to remove.

I start with Extra Course, it saves a lot of time

Also the trick with the Queen D2 is to keep it sharp with an Extra Fine
Don't let it dull where you will have to go back to Course...

It is much easier to get the CV to very sharp, but it drops off quite quickly
It is much harder to get D2 to sharp, but it stays there

the queen d2 is very good stuff for edge holding. case cv is great for easy touch ups. I'd like to throw out a 3rd alternative- find a buck with BG42, this is also good stuff, arguably, the best. although you wont find a sodbuster with it. I can also tell you that corrugated is rather tough on blades. I worked in that industry for a long time and we used to always use the old Stanley 10-99 utility knives with the disposable razor type blades for cutting it.

I have also found Benchmade's D2 not as good, perhaps it is too soft. I've never had a bad Queen D2. They really do the job well, and will power through cardboard very, very well. My informal testing is that it holds an edge about 3x longer than CV, and if you thin the edge and put a microbevel on it, then easily 5x longer. And I really like CV, it's just that well heat treated D2 is hard to beat.

No idea why, but Queen's D2 gets some bad press. It is some of the best stuff out there, certainly in the traditional ranges.

If I was going to buy a first, production, carbon steel folder, it would be a GEC not a Case.

The Country Cousin is a lovely knife :)

I will simply echo what a lot of very knowledgeable folks have said. The D2 Queen Country Cousin will hold an excellent edge and better than the Case Sodbuster but....the Queen will need to be reprofiled first. My Country Cousin was sharp as a butterknife maybe. I reprofiled my Country Cousin on a Norton Combo India. It took about 30 to 45 minutes and when I finished it was very sharp. Queen D2 is a very good steel and I have had great results with my Norton India Combo stone.

Curious as to how you tested it to come up with those findings? Which model Benchmade?
