Why does the edge near the end of the knife get wider on one side then the other. It is when I use my left hand. What am I doing wrong.

thanks

Couple possible answers.

Blade grind not symmetrical.
Blade bent.
You are rocking the blade.
You are grinding more with your left hand, or if I misunderstand you, you are grinding less with your left hand.
Your knife rest has lost its flatness.
Your stones may need to be flattened (less likely culprit here, but with limited info and no pictures, it could be part of the cause)

Ben Dale is open to questions and has a toll free number to call.

I think you are pivoting the tip towards you (Pushing the handle away from you) when you get to the tip. when you do this the stone contacts more of the blade and creates a wider bevel.

Good advice given, the best of which is to call Ben himself. He tries to answer the phone himself in the afternoons Pacific time. Great guy to talk to.
Cheers
