I'm getting ready to grab some Shapton Glass stones for my edge pro. I was wondering if you all could give me some recommendations on grit steps?

I'd like to start out with just 2 or 3 stones (probably 3), and thought 500, 2000 and 6000 would be the way to go.

I definitely don't want to be paying good money for grits I'll never use, so I need advice from some folk a bit more savvy than I!

I only have one shapton stone, so the grits may vary a bit, but on my other water stones I generally use a #1000 for the main sharpening. Everything coarser is for removing more steel. Finer is for refining the edge I got off the #1000.
