I had the EP, switched to the WE and am much happier. The EP is a fine product but, for me, the WE is easier to learn and easier to use. The EP is more dependent on good manual technique since you must position and hold the blade on the "table". This can get tricky for small blades (especially slipjoints - again, this was my experience) and blades with a saber grind (which angle are you keeping flat on the table). Depending on the shape of the blade, you may need to move the blade around to maintain an even angle as you work the belly of the blade. Thumb studs can be an issue on both systems, depending on the knife.
The WE clamps the blade in place and made it easier for me to keep things uniform. It was easier to use from day one, and has been easier to work around issues (small blades, flat grinds and thumb studs). You don't have to worry about resetting the angle when change grits or soaking and flattening stones. For me, its just easier and less work to get better results - that's better results than I could get on the EP - there are plenty of EP fans (and WE users, as well, for that matter) than get better results than I do.
