Edge retention and ease of sharpening

Yeah, I cut my coarse one up into blocks, I thus have four surfaces to sharpen with, when I flatten them they usually are deeply grooved.

I have two or three Arkansas stones that I have rounded the edges on (REALLY rounded) with a belt sander to help in sharpening recurves. Seems to work nicely.
