Edge up or down felt belts

I was gonna try some felt belts with buffing compound for finishing/sharpening and was wondering if this should be done edge up or edge down? I was thinking edge down.... Does anyone use felt belts for finishing?

definately edge down.

Yep edge down or you will be cutting belts and flinging blades around. I rarely use them for finishing as I mostly hand sand though.

Edge down or you will loose fingers and belts. I don't think it would be possible to do it edge up.
