Edge weapons replace guns. Impossible?

You know, I don't think its likely that wars will ever be fought with middle aged weapons, but it sure would make my day if Gang violence did.

It would make my day to see some Crip pull out a battle axe wearing some chainmail (and his bandana of course), and charge a group of bloods, only to have them counter with a ball and chain. There would be a lot less collateral damage, its more manly, and you'd have to have a damngood reason for wanting to 'off' someone. :D

it can shoot (there are ones that are made but they are huge) a tungsteon rod so fast that when it hits a object it instentaniously liquifies the tugsteon

this weapon can go through heavy tank armor, renforced concreat, ect


using kevlar to try and block this would be like standing in front of a tank cannon using a sheet of paper as armor :eek: :eek: :eek: :eek:

Using Kevlar to block even just a tank cannon seems like quite a bad idea to me... at least, I'd want something a little bit bigger than a vest.

On a completely different note, what I've heard about a Star Wars lightsaber is that its not actually made out of light. It is a plasma arc on a magnetically stabilized handle. In the original movies they always fought two handed, but as the newer films (ugh) and games (yay) show, that doesn't have to be the rule.

Also this Web page, which uses a different spelling, "Harkonen" and appears to either promote, or laugh at, the Nazis, depending on your viewpoint. In the DUNE books the "Harkonnens" are very brutal, Nazi-esque people. Frank Herbert when he wrote them still remembered the Fascist/Nazi people and how they almost destroyed Western civilization. By the way, in the vey last Dune books the Jews make an appearance, over 30,000 years from now.

Also I do not want to ignite a Flame War, but Frank Herbert wrote great books. His son has done some other Dune books and the son's writing IMHO just is not as good as Frank's was. I wish it was, but it just is not.

Also, besides the Jews in Frank Herbert's last works on Dune a painting by Vincent Van Gogh makes an appearance, having survived more than 300 centuries.

Maybe guns will become unfashionable, like in a Tarrentino movie. When the Crazy 88s attacked the Bride, none of them even considered fetching a gun.

(Personally, if I'd been, say, the 40th of 50th in line, I'd have seriously thought about it, but then I'm not the most honourable fighter and I'm not in a Tarrentino movie.)
 
In Dune, Frank Herbert introduces personal force-field shields that block projectiles but allow slow moving blades to penetrate, so people duel with knives. It's just science fiction, but it is a lot of fun.
 
Ok, so I somehow managed not to read the third page before posting. Honestly, I was dropped on my head as a small child...that's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it!
