edgepro

I have used both Pro and Apex over the years.

The pro is hand made by Ben and ( I believe ) only available from him.
If money is no object........

The Apex works on exactly the same principle and uses the same hones as the pro. Apex can not do scissors. However Apex will do a superb job on everything else.

I personally find that most small blades are easier than long ones.

What trips me up are blades that are not flat and if allowed to 'rock' on the blade table, then you are going to have problems.

I have one small blade that always gives me a problem.
Benchmade 770.

Its blade has two distinct flat areas and you had better decide which 'flat'
you are going to use as they must be at least 10° apart.

Someone on this forum had the idea to use some sort of child's plasticine ( play dough ? ) and I have experimented with this with good results.

I tiny amount on the table stabilizes the blade.

As far as 'Scary Sharp' goes.

I have achieved this once only with one blade.

Very good steel, and a thin cross section and 15 ° edge angle.

Actually cut a hanging hair mid length. Amazing.

That sounds like a good idea though, I would use silly putty because it would probably not harm the blade in any way.

Another thumbs up for the Edge Pro System, Ben Dale is the greatest person to deal with, his system kicks a**.

With that said, I love my Apex, but I really only use it on knives I want really sharp, or to fix bad knives, 90% of my work is done freehand, once I set up the Apex I usually sharpen everything within reach, then that'll last me for a long time, all the touch up's done with natural stones, diamonds or strops.
