EDIT, FOUND IT: Last week I lost a faithful Victorinox companion of over 25 years

I have used my Fieldmaster for countless chores, almost on a daily basis, since I got it back in the mid 1980s. Just a few weeks ago I replaced the cracked and worn cellidor handles with nylon, and posted about it here.

Last Monday we left to spend Thanksgiving week with my family in Ohio and Indiana. I put my Fieldmaster in the Leatherman belt sheath I have used for most of those years and clipped it on my belt. We stopped in Asheville to pick up our son. The next morning when we were leaving town I sat down to clip a loose thread from my shoe and when I reached for the Fieldmaster all I had was an empty belt sheath. I went back to the coffee shop, and it was not there. I called the hotel, but housekeeping had not found it. I searched all through the van, again no luck.

So, instead of this newly refurbished faithful companion:

all I have left of the old Fieldmaster is this:

Man that totally stinks. :( sorry to read this. Maybe a new friend will be around the corner.

Thanks doc, I just called the hotel again - nothing turned in.

Since I have a Hunstman already, maybe it's time for something a bit slimmer, like a Climber.

Oh man that sucks! I had a Farmer that I loved and lost. I recently got another one for my self. The Climber looks like a good choice.

It sucks! But now you have a chance to choose a new companion ;)

Spoken like a true knife knut. LOL. Yep, that's the bitter-sweet part of losing a knife -- the justification that you now "need" a replacement.

By the way, sorry to hear about losing that old friend, Doug Add. Sounds like you'd sure put in many miles together.

It does suck that you lost one that you had carried for so long. I know that I get attached to things after a while and that then there value can no longer be counted in dollar bills. Still tho in the end it's just stuff and replacing it with something new should be fun. A Climber or maybe a Super Tinker with plus scales might be just the thing.

I admire you guys (and chicks) who carry the same tool for years and years.

Edit: thanks to you, Mr. Doug, I will break out my Fieldmaster today. I'm usually an Explorer Plus guy, but the Fieldmaster is for me a close runner up. Its largely the same tool as the Explorer - both being 4 layers - though the Fieldmaster adds the saw, loses the magnifier and moves the phillips to the spine. Sorry about this loss for you.

Edit #2: hey, you may have done this, but go look in the dang car, way down low where seat bolts to the floor. Look real good there with a flashlight. My lost toys love to go hide there.

Thanks. This Odyssey van has a lot of clearance under the seat, so it is easy to get a good look, but I'll go back over it again. I've overlooked stuff before.

I know how that feels; it's like losing a friend! But, if you're like most of us here, you have replacements standing by ;) I have gifted or "permanently loaned" SAK's all over the world. Take peace in the knowledge that whoever finds it will be better equipped. :D

Thanks powernoodle!

I just went back to the van with a flashlight. The Fieldmaster was under the console next to the front passenger seat. I don't know how it got there as it was clipped to my left hip, maybe when unloading or loading at the hotel.

Nonetheless, happy to have it back in the fold.

So, the people of this forum are not only responsible for me buying knives, but now finding lost ones!

Time to throw away that stretched and worn Leatherman belt sheath before I lose the Vic again.

I did that too! Thought I lost my zt 350 in a corn maize... Turns out it was at home

My dresser!

Well... sad to hear, that you lost it... but good to hear, that you found it again :)

I´m sure, you´re pretty happy right now. Loosing such a companion might be really hard for any knife friend! Especially when thinking of the hours/days/months it stayed in your pocket and in your hands....
