educate me on mad dog knives?

Mad Dog is a clown. I asked him a direct question in a respectful manner and was banned from his forum. Never been banned anywhere. He prefers discussions that no one can respond to.

If your interested in Mad Dog knives I would check out Frost cutlery. They build a superior product at a substatially lower price point.

what was the question?

Man, if you want a cool knife in 01 that is well heat treated, and really cool looking, just get a Randall Sasquatch. Still pricy, but they are worth it. The $$$$ on Mad Dogs are probably going to severely plummet one day. Randalls retain their value. If you don't like the Sasquatch, there are LOT of other cool models.

i'm not trying to open the can of worms here.i'm genuinely interested in MD knives.

I'm not suggesting you are trying to start something. That's why I said inadvertently. There are a few companies and makers that if you raise a question about their product it will draw the fanatics out of the wood work.

I assumed from your post you looking for information, However more often than not when someone like yourself who is unfamiliar with one of these makers like Mr. McClung or Mick Strider or Jerry Busse and raises a few questions, the zelots come out to defend their Messiah. Little aside from insults is exchanged.

Very few people in the knife community elicit the flame wars that the mention of the name Kevin McClung will. This has been going on for years.

I don't buy his knives after the big fiasco between him and Strider. I have owned MD's in the past and they were high quality pieces. I also don't buy Strider knives anymore for similar reasons. Both are shady IMO.

They don't like you upsetting the apple cart over there-and the scary thing is it takes very little to upset their little hanger ons. You ask the wrong question and I promise you it is mob mentality. And the mob forms before your eyes. All of us who have been escorted out of Angry Puppies' forum should start our on forum.

Even better is when they butcher your account in mid post, claim no knowledge, and then they send you an email asking for money:D

It doesn't matter (I don't want to open a can of worms).... The fact is, I was just letting the thing go, but then I was asked about it again, and then I was kicked off for whining about it!

Huh. Well if they ASKED, then they should have been prepared to accept the answers without judgement. Honestly, why ask a question if you're sure you're not going to like the answer? Especially when its just over someone's opinion? Weird...

I owned 5 Mad-Dogs in the past. Pros - They are well built and finished and the sheaths are first class. Cons - The chrome finish is questionable at preventing rust, the O1 edge hardness may be a bit too brittle, the handle gets slippery when wet, and IMHO the prices too high for what you get.

Everyone says they are finished well, but if the HT is as horrible as what I've read I wouldn't say that's good finishing unless they're sitting in a safe somewhere. They certainly aren't very nice looking, but people pay big bucks on e-bay for the ultra collectible, super rare, ultra awesome SEAL ATAKS's

Buncha hype. They have a following alot more rabid than the strider guys. Mclung has a reputation for being a jerk. I havent handled his knives but i dont know of anything that would make me pay as much as he ask's.

If you want a good strong knife go for a busse.
