Hi guys,
I asked this in the discussion forum but didn't get any takers so I thought I'd ask here.
I recently came across a rescue knife from Eickhorn-Solingen. They (website) said that the steel is corrosion free 440A that has been laser cut and ice hardened. Admittedly, I have no idea what that means in terms of quality or fit and finish...so I thought I would ask you folks!
This is the website: http://www.lbainternational.com/eickhorn/rt_pocket.htm

Has anyone here handled a knife from Eickhorn? I read that the company was taken over by a UK company called LBA Systems Ltd who make ballistic vests and material. Apparently the company kept the manufacturing of the knives in Germany to keep the same workmanship and QC.

Any comments on the company or steel? The one that gets me is "ice hardened". Is that part of the standard process for hardening steel?

Thanks for any help!

Cheers!

I know some knives are said to be ice hardend but I don't really know the exact advantages of the process.

As far as 440a it isn't a premium steel, alot of fokes don't seem to think much of it,but to me it's a decent stainless if heat treated properly, takes a fine edge easily but dosen't hold it as well as 440c or the newer steels, but not all together junk either.

Forget about the Eickhorn Rescue knife. Recently tested in the German Knife Magazine, it was found to be NOT the first choice among the rescue knives.
They critizised quality and construction design.
In general Eickhorn isn´t really considered a top brand among german knife nuts.
