Sorry if this is the wrong sub-forum/section, but it seemed most appropriate.

I have been trying to get in contact with Dale Sandberg from Eight Dollar Mountain Foundry to place an order. Does anyone know if all is well or has he ceased taking orders and making knives?

I sent 3 emails in the past month in attempts to place an order with no response. I know on his website he says he has been suffering from a health problem so the only thing I can assume is his health either turned for the worse or I am using the wrong email address.

I hope all is well and am not trying to get into the guy's personal business, I just wanted to see if EDMF is done and I should cease in my attempts to get in contact with Mr. Sandberg.

Here is the website http://www.edmfknives.com/ and the email address I am sending to is edmf@frontiernet.net, the one they have at the top of the page stating it is their new one.

Thanks to anyone who responds and I sincerely wish Mr. Sandberg and his family all the best.

I tried on and off to contact him for a couple of years via email and finally got a response about a year ago that he was still working as best he could. I responded with an order and never heard back. I don't know if he gets so much local business that he never reads his email or if he's just not a very good communicator.

I think if I really wanted one of his knives I would see if I could find his phone number. Everybody says he does great work at really good prices, it just seems he isn't the best marketer in the world.

Why does this seem appropriate in general, with the instructions at the top of indicate clearly that it is not appropriate?

Geez. Moved where it should have been posted to begin with.

I have one of his bowies with the knuckle guard, bought it about 5 years ago off the exchange.real cool knife.a bargain at 100.00.not sure if he's even making them anymore.

I have several of his knives bought years ago, but I haven't been able to contact Dale or Elaine in probably five years. I figure they must have closed up shop, but never took down the site.

The email I got from him was in November of 2009. He told me he was still taking orders but couldn't guarantee delivery times. I have not heard from him since.

I am sorry Bastid for posting this is the wrong section. Clearly I was aloof and this section should have been easy to find.

Thank you for putting it in the proper place.

Just wanted to update. Mr. Sandberg is still taking orders. I called based on the recommendation here (thank you for that btw) and got a hold of the Sandbergs just to give them a friendly reminder I had sent some emails.

Don't want to get too much into details (don't really have much anyway) but Mr. Sandberg is a good man taking care of his wife, she said she had been sick for the past month, and plus getting a tad bit older has impeded on his work (not in quality just speed). Mr. Sandberg was actually out at the time of the call getting his wife medicine, but she assured me she would let him know and if I would send another email he would respond ASAP. Well I did and he did. Got back to me within just about two hours or so.

I went ahead and placed the order. I am excited about these knives. I can't find a smatchet anywhere so I got the Fair Sword and the AppleFairbain style plus a couple other knife designs.

Great prices in my opinion and sure the communication may not be the best but they are great people and I can wait on these blades. Of course you are not charged until the knives are ready to be delivered.

Since I started this thread I will see it through and keep it updated, don't want to put out half-truth type information about the man or his company. Probably won't be for a while until the blades are delivered, but when I get the knives I will update the thread with some pics.

Oh and also thank you all for your replies it is appreciated.

That's good to hear. Maybe Dale doesn't routinely answer emails because of the number of orders that might generate, and he just can't handle the volume.

I talk to Dale about this a year ago , he told me he is to old and he is very slow, so be patience you might get yours if you lucky ,i know guys who have been waiting sense 06

I placed an order for one of his kick-ass kukris sometime in 2005 or 2006, and then heard nothing. Fellow forumite Hollowdweller had one of the same knives and I liked it the minute I saw it. At the time I think he was doing fire-fighting in the woods out there part time (?). I believe Dale might also have some health issues to contend with in his family as someone else mentioned. Anyway, out of the blue he contacted me in late 2010 I think it was and told me my knife was ready! I had to scramble to come up with the very reasonable price he was asking, and couldn't be happier. I think he can only spend so much time working, but he didn't forget me.

Dale Sandberg of EDMF is pretty much retired and no longer taking orders due to how hard it is for him to work in the shop. He may still have a few outstanding orders he is trying to fill, but after those nothing else will likely be made.
