Here's an old Gen 2 Ek that originally came with a paracord handle and brass guard. The guard was secured with pins right behind it through the tang. It was a little bit of a pain in the ass to remove the pins without damaging the guard. It wasn't a tight fit and had a lot if wiggle. The guard was also pretty badly pitted and unevenly ground. With the paracord taken off the grinds on the tang weren't brutally bad, but it took some time to straighten them out and clean up some of the roughness.
I reground the guard, made the handles, cleaned up the tang holes, cleaned up and flattened the tang, and did the quick job with paracord that was taken from the original handle.
I can't see any light coming through where the handles and tang meet up and the guard is a little better than before and had no wiggle.
Anyway, the the basis of Ek knives were for soldiers by veterans. I hope I didn't do a disservice to the people who made and carried these.
Any critiques, pointers, or advice welcome.
