EK Knives

In the pre-Blackjack period, how does one tell the Japanese blades from the earlier US-made blades?
 
It looks like I'm going to have to retrieve my knife. You've all got me intrigued now.

Blackjack ones are Marked Effinham IL on the back side opposite the Ek logo (It's pretty prominent)
