Bill said in the "cherished" thread,

I hope this forum rolls on long after I am gone. I tried to make it into a good place, something better and bigger than the norm and I can tell that I have which is most comforting to me. Rusty will find a helper when he gets too old to do the job and if he should go suddenly which would be my wish for him then simply elect a couple of moderators from your ranks. There are several here who are qualified candidates.
It looks like Bill got his wish for Rusty, and the time to elect a moderator is here.

I have 2 nominations.

The old NDN.

Munk

Good choices. Keep in mind, if you mod you have some big shoes to fill and quite a collection of characters to deal with. Don't know how technical the job is, but it's certainly going to take some time.

I'll add Howard to the nomination list.

Edit to add:

Any forumites currently near Reno? Not that they should mod, but it could be useful to have someone on the ground, especially in the next few days, if anyone is willing/able to do so. Sounds like Munk is talking to Yangdu - if you could relay any info you get, it would be greatly appreciated. We should probably spare her 200 phone calls a day from concerned forumites.

I was thinking of you, Howard. You have maturity, compassion, and a knowledge of things khukurish.
But we don't elect- we request- we attend to our friend Yangdu. What she wants and needs. It'll get sorted out right.

I've written to her finally. I, like many of you, had been waiting for Rusty to communicate her needs to us. He is gone.

I told her her forum was here for her. She'll have a dozen hands at any one moment offerring help to get this 'house that Bill Built' rolling along. We're going to need our elder statesmen. We're going to need our friends.

If this had happened in most other forums, the question would be, "Who can we trust with this task?"

Here, the question is, "Who can we not trust with this task?"

We're very fortunate in this.

Howard, Yvsa, Munk, Kismet, Spectre...I can think of so many. I suspect that convincing the candidate to take the job will be more difficult than finding one who's qualified.

I immediately thought to turn to Yvsa and munk.

If there is anything I can do, please let me know.

I assume that Cougar will step in in the interim...

I second those nominations.

James

I'll make that a third...if either of them is willing to step up to it.

Hell, I just want to know how Yangdu is doing now.

Not to mention Rusty's family, as well...

I would be happy with any of those mentioned so far.

I can't engrave a whole bunch of plaques or anything in great numbers, but I would consider it a great honor to engrave somethig special for Yangdu, Rusty's family, or some special item to commemorate Uncle Bill.

Tom

We have a good group, and I'm certain we won't have the problems that might plague another online forum if we have to go without a mod for a while.

Geez. I'm sure they're both happier, now, but Rusty, too? Oh, man.

Like munk said, let's see what Yangdu wants.

And my heart is with you all.

John

I'd go for Munk and Yvsa in a moment. Both are absolutely excellent, and I consider both to be my friends.

Munk, you were the first to respond to my first question here. My very first image of this forum was your perspective, and it kept me here. Thank you.

Yvsa, your wisdom (and dirty old man humor :) ) have been great for me. Your posts are always the best, man.

Both of you would be great. It doesn't let me improve your reputations any more because I need to spread it around!!

I can think of no better leaders here.

Nam

I can't think of any here who would not do an excellent job. Yvsa and munk are certainly at the top of the list with their knowledge and fairness. However I will say this. Both Yvsa and munk knew Rusty and Uncle Bill very closely and I believe have been more personally shaken by their deaths than most of us who knew them only through the forum. Let us not ask anyone to shoulder additional duties if they aren't willing or emotionally ready at this time.

They know we will ask them...but they *will* need time.

Smoke and song for Edutsi, prayer for munk...to each find comfort in their own beliefs.

I support all of the people who have been nominated....but I caution that this is still Spark's forum and he's ultimately in charge. I imagine an "interim solution" will be just having one of the other mods step in to watch over things.

I'm just grateful that the forum is still here, despite it's leadership passing on.

Leaders are not defined by their actions, but by those who choose to follow...and Bill and Rusty did in fact lead. They did not give us fish...they taught us to fish for ourselves.

The Cantina will survive because of the Cantinistas.

Besides, Yangdu is still in charge. I'm sure she will continue to have her own opinons...and if Bill didn't argue when she declared a blem, who are we to?

.

I second Yvsa and Munk and Howard and add Daniel Koster as well--while taking his caution about Spark seriously too.
