Elections will be held in Nepal on May 23. What does this mean to us? Perhaps a delay
in some shipments.

The Maoists are operating at full throttle, trying to terrorize villagers into voting the
Mao way. US State Dept. travel warnings have been issued for several areas of Nepal.
It is a dangerous time to do just about anything except stay home and wait for
elections to pass.

I was living in Nepal when the country had their first free election and things got very
hectic with outbursts of violence.

I am hoping for the best this year but I know this will delay progress in shop 2 and
perhaps a couple of shipments.

So just in case your special order takes longer than we think it should you know why.

If those commies foul up my khukri shipments;they will really anger me.

Ghostsix, your WWII 18 incher is going into the mail today. Engraving as you wished and your name inscribed in Devanagari.

The Commies are no match for an old Gurkha like Kami Sherpa. He ran against Communists in local elections and beat them hands down for mayorship of his village of Phera.

Got the election date screwed up. It was the 3rd (yesterday in Nepal) and 10 people were killed. I guess there was so much trouble they will hold another day of election on the 17th. Election is not a happy time in Nepal.

Uncle Bill

Perhaps we should send over some of our elected officials to help on the 17th. Be a real pity if they got caught up in some of the 'problems'...

Here's a sample of how it went.

FOOTNOTE: KATHMANDU Nepali voters went to the polls Monday amid a
security clampdown after clashes between Maoist rebels and police and
other election-related violence left 10 people dead.

More than 25,000 police officers manned almost 3,000 polling stations
from southern plains to the world's highest peaks, and the army was
on standby for the first of two phases of voting.

In the southern plains, one man was killed and nine were injured in
gunfights Monday between rival party activists, and one man was shot
dead by police when he tried to bomb a polling station, an interior
ministry spokesman said.
