I am looking to buy a Deckel GK21. There is one available in Canada that is spec'ed at 550v 3ph. Does anyone have any idea if this could be rewired for 220/3 or would I have to change out the motor?

Bob

Many motors are dual voltage and can be rewired, but many are not. I have a Gorton tracer mill with a 440 spindle motor and I run it on a step-up transformer. The motors are special built balanced motors, replacing them reduces the quality of the mill and can affect finish and tool life.

Double check the voltage. The poster might have typed the wrong number. Or they might have spec. the power (i.e. 550 W). Also, if the equipment is from Europe the motor might be spec. for 50 Hz.

No, those numbers make perfect sense.

You have 220 and 440 - 475 in the USA

Here in Canada we use 550 three phase for the big industrial stuff.

Check the data plate on the motor.
if the voltage on the plate also lists 220, there is a way to wire it 220

However, if you take it to a motor shop
It's possible that they can rewind it to 220 - for the issue Nathanmentioned.

Manufacturers plate says 550v 60cy. There is however, this large panel on the back of the machine which is not on most of these. I have no idea what it is. Seller doesn't seem real knowlegable.

Contact a real motor repair shop, or a static / rotary phase convertor shop

They will set you up with a phase convertor and maybe a step up transformer.
