Greetings,

Just popped for a new grinder... KMG with a platen and small wheel. I've been using a 1 x 30 for last couple years, before that was a hand file and a jig...

The machine is incredible... but I cheaped out and bought a 1 hp motor. "BAD MOVE"... that is what powers all my buffing equipment and for that it is plenty...

What I'm looking for is input on what motors you use... I'm looking at least 2 - 3 hp... I've got 220v no problem for a 3hp. Is 3hp over kill? will 2hp be enough?

thanks

I found a good deal on a 3hp 3 ph Baldor Super E motor, so I jumped on it. This required a different Kb ac drive but you can't have too much power.

I've got a 3HP Baldor Standard E powering my KMG and I love it. Also have the KBAC VFD. I paid just over 200$ shipped on ebay. New old stock.

do you work with 1700rpm range or the 3450rpm range?

what size pulleys are you using?

thanks

I have a 1.5HP Leason on my KMG...no problems that I can see coming. Why didn't you just order the 2HP Leason from KMG when you bought your grinder ?

This is what I did (2 hp VFD) when I ordered the last KMG. I would have got a 3 hp, but they weren't offering them yet.
