Anyone ever make any of these. I have a customer who requested one and I'm not sure how hard the blade should be. These are the lil short bladed things they skin wire with.
I figgered on using 1080 to start out and see how it goes. Any ideas?
here's one I did for a buddy of mine, who works for AT&T. Sorry about the blurry pic. the blade was made from a nicholson file. the handle is cold forged 5/8's 1018 with a hog suede wrap. there is a single brass pin/rivit to fix the blade. If you want, I have a xxx improved plowshare cable damascus blank I forged out a few summers ago that I'll send you. I'm not doing anything with it. it needs beveled, and the rivit hole drilled, heat treated and will be a heavy duty cutter as it's 1/8" thick 1.75" long with a 1.5" cutting edge.
Here's a pic of the blank, enlarged to try to show the pattern
Wharnecliff or Hawkbill style blade work well for skinning romex wire, My father-in-law is an electrician, he always carried a 3 1/2 inch two blade congress with wharnecliff blades for what it's worth.
Thanks guys. This was a specific order on the Klein pattern with a lil change in the handle shape. Thanks for the offer Jason.
Frank that description fits a T29.
As an aside, my Dad, who was in Signal Corp Intelligence in WW2 used to say that with a TL29 and a pair of needle nose pliers you could do anything! I understand that circa Vietnam era they finally got around to designing a dual belt sheath for knife and pliers for the "sparkies." Lots of different companies made them, my Mom stil has a CamilusTL29 that he had for years.
