Woud you makers recommend electro etching on a satin finish blade (D2 in this case)? Any different procedures etc.?

Thanks

Electro etching on a satin finish can be done just fine. You'd do it the same way you etch mirror/stonewashed/bead blasted finishes.

What exactly do you have in mind? Etching logos or etching the entire blade?

Logo. I was worried that the satin finish might somehow cause the etch to dull or "bleed" more. Thanks.

You'll be fine. The only time I've had that sort of issues was with practice etching on very deeply scratched surfaces like on a 36 grit "satin" finish. Even then it only happens when you use too much etchant and the stencil isn't nice and flat on the surface.

I recently tried a little trick Brian Fellhoelter described here... keeping the stencil moist with plain water, and a light spritz of windex on the blade before laying the stencil down. It does indeed help the stencil lay flat, and helps prevent ghosting and fuzzy images. To be fair, the roughest surface I tried it on was hand-sanded at 600 grit... your mileage may vary if your surface is coarser.
