I'm about to build an electro-etcher using the Chris Crawford plans.

Anybody have any tips or suggestions.

Nope just follow the plans. I used a box that was 1" smaller because thats all they had. Still works just fine.

Make sure to test fit your switches and stuff before wiring.

I soldered all my wiring just because thats what I like to do.

Make sure you get the right size box, the one I got was just a little bit too small. However I switched to a dead PC power supply and it fit great, loads of room for all the wiring and switches with the added bonus of having fan ports for cooling.

This is a GREAT etcher, but do remember, this isn't Chris' plan, Bob Warner designed it, Chris hosts the plan AND gives credit to Bob...

Yeah Bob use to host it but his version he decided to put the plans on a dvd and sell it. No big deal, Chris I think changed a few things for his if I remember correctly.

I just finished putting this thing together. I used the 16V doorbell transformer. It give me 22V AC and 19V DC.

Should I use a Q-tip or make the etching pad?

Hope to oder some stencils next week so I can see if this thing will work.

Thanks for all the help. Brad

You can test it out if you want with salt water and a taped out area. Thats what I did to try mine out. I still need to order a stencil but Ive got time, none of my projects are even close to sell worthy yet.

Thanks man. It's works great. I put that off too long. I should've done this a long time ago.

The pad will go through more electrolyte and the q-tips work just as well. If you use a small stencil, smaller than the pad, you could get burn-through underneath the stencil. The pad should never touch steel directly outside the stencil, this isn't a problem with q-tips. The pad could be difficult to use right next to the scales, the q-tips don't have this problem. I really like the q-tips, if you couldn't tell.
