Electro Magnetic Knife Opening Idea

LOL! Great work, Jestyr. That prototype is hilarious. :)

There’s a maker named Paul Fox who’s made knives that open with an electric motor. I’m not really sure how they work though. The idea of using electro magnets in autos has been discussed in a few threads before, but I don’t know if anybody has actually tried to make one.

Dave, in a way you almost reintvemnted "coilgun" (coilgun is a lousy contactless railgun replacement that operates on different principle); why not make it a railgun design instead ? It'll pop out the front like there's no tomorrow (you could/should implement magnetic or mechanical stop) and it'll be absolutely top technology :D

(for more info on railguns do search on Google - just like coilguns they can be rather bulky, especially combined with a power cell that allows for multiple open/close cycles)
