Electronic Calipers

I would not be without either my good calipers and micrometers or my cheap ones. When I am kicking around the shop I can leave the cheap ones around were they are easily available. When I am doing the more intricate precision work I pull out the good ones from the drawer. Though they normally measure the same when .001 is the difference in a good part or a piece of scrap I want the best tool available.

i have the black ones you see a lot and they are ok. they have to be rezeroed a lot and lately it seems if i move them to fast they get all messed up and have to be rezeroed and then slowly measured with.

my grandfather bought them for me as a christmas of birthday present a while back so i have no idea how much they were and thats probably why i havent made it a big deal to see if they are broken or if its just a crapy design (plus the fact that i use them rarely now)

thanks Guys
one of the guys looking on here had a set of the older electronic Starrett's he doesn't use, for a great price , I'll try it for now and maybe also get a pair of the HF jobs also down the road, I just happened to get my new catalog in yesterday :), they list like 15 bucks for the 6" I think it was..

I purchased a set by Mitutoyo on E-bay last year, that contained a mic and a caliper. They went for under 120.00.
Very nice to use. Accurate and smooth in operation.

Dan, when you go to buy cheap calipers, pay heed to the materials. Some of them are made out of plastic.
