well I emailed victorinox in switzerland and they told me that the "elinox" stamp was used on some of their knives in the 50's and 60's. They said that there were other knives similarly stamped so they decided not to register the trademark. The name "elinox" was the elsener name combined with "inox", French for stainless. Much like the name Victoria which was Karl Elseners' mothers' name combined with "inox" (hince "victorinox").
