Bruce, beautiful knife ! and sheath too. both very substantial. your modest price does not reflect your top quality workmanship. i bet this one will out-perform anyone else's $450 knife of about the same size. and you did win the Machete contest and 2nd in the "Camp Knife Challenge". this one is right between those 2 in size. i would like to own it but i should pay off income tax arrears first. shouldn't i ?
does it slice soft tomatoes ?

Well thanks Roland. Unfortunately I didn't win the machete challenege though:cool:....

That is a testament to the quality of all these fine blades.

That is about the sneakiest way out of a tough descision I've seen in a while... Bravo, Vic You did a great job on everything!! Congrats to the other makers.... what a challenge, indeed!!

And Koyote had the edge on me:p:

Now for the big ones. Performance wise, there just isn't any significant difference that I can tell. Both chop and slash brush very well. Both have large, comfortable handles. It all comes down to personal preference on this one. I prefer the balance and feel on the Koyote machete.

Joezilla is still working on phase 2 of the challenge.....

Back to the elk antler Hudson Bay Camp knife:

does it slice soft tomatoes ?

I don't have any tomatoes to test it on. I can tell you that it will shave hair:)

$230 !! i really want to buy this knife. please, somebody, save me ! speak for this knife or i will HAVE to.
Guaranteed, knife will exceed your expectations. (and thinly slice soft tomatoes this summer i bet. that's a good challenge for a BIG knife)

Came back for another look at this knife. Still really like it but i just don't have funds right now. It's a super good deal at $230 though.

ManofMisery,
Here is a similar style knife that had an overall lenght of 14" (2 1/4" shorter than the elk antler one) and the weight on it:

the knife weighs 370 grams/11.9 oz. The knife & sheath together weigh 597 grams/19 oz.

So the elk antler handled one will be slightly heavier - I'll try to get a weight on it over the next few days. The balnce point is 1 1/8" in front of the scales.
