'06 has probably killed as many elk as the next several most popular calibers combined. I think it will be perfect. Just don't use deer bullets like Remington Core-Lokts. They shoot very accurately in my .338 and are great for deer. However, I had a couple disintegrate in a tough old 275-300 lb hog. My '06 packing buddies don't use Core-Lokts for either hogs or elk. I've had good results with the Trophy Bonded Bearclaw bullets but I've heard good things about several other premium bullets, including the venerable Nosler Partition.
