Elk hunting status...

I did New Haven, CT to San Mateo, CA in three days in March. Once you get to Reno, the rest really IS a breeze.

I am back in gun-lovin' California. :D

I left South Dakota just before 2AM. I reached Rawlins, Wyoming just before 7AM to fill up (gas) and empty (pee). I then reached the Utah border just before 10AM. I stopped in Tooele for fill/empty. I crossed into Nevada at 12:30PM, which became 11:30AM. My third and final fill/empty stop was in Lovelock. I entered California right before 5PM, and got home at 8:30PM. I am glad to be home.

My dad is out elk hunting this morning. I hope to get good news soon.

What kind of suv do you have? How does it feel after 19 hours? I'm young and sprite and my neck is sore after 6 hours of driving! Welcome home!

I drive a fully-loaded 2006 Infiniti FX35 AWD.

My dad gave me some great news at about lunchtime on Wednesday (the 15th). He finally got his elk. It was a big 6x6 bull. Photos were taken the old-fashion way, and are in route to me. I will scan then post them. It may take a few days.

Some details are that it was a 100-yard offhand shot. My dad was using .338-06 and the Barnes 185gr TSX bullet. One shot caused this large beast to drop like a ton of bricks, and there was no exit wound. The gutpile was about 200 pounds (like two complete antelopes), and my dad didn't feel like recovering the bullet.

In any case, I am very happy for my dad. I knew he'd get a good one. I can't wait to see the photos. I am sure that the Euro mount is already done. ;)
