Man, that's a lot of meat.

I've never had Elk. How does it compare in taste to your average whitetail deer? Similar? Better?

I think Elk tastes better for the most part.

A lot of the flavor kind of depends on where they live and what they eat.

All other things equal, I think I like elk better.

I did shoot one deer that was living in a corn field and every night jumped the fence and eat my friends alfalfa. That was a tasty deer! No gamy flavor at all!

Elk tend to stink a lot more than deer, when you are dressing them out. They are much more musky smelling to me.

Skinning is my least favorite part. I hate the feeling of the fat layer on my hands. So sticky and gets on everything.

I much prefer butchering after the skinning has been done.












As to the OP, great bull there.

I have never shot my own. Just helped butcher a friends.

I should really look at getting my tags this year.
