Anyone have one of Darren’s forges set up for natural gas or know if they are set up for the lower residential pressure? I just missed his business hours today and have sent him an e-mail, but just found out I’m on a deadline, so thought I’d ask here.

Thanks,

Todd

As far as I know they're just designed for Propane. That said, it might be possible to modify one of the forced air setups to run on natural gas. It would take quite a bit of fiddling to get it to run right though. If you're on a deadline of some sort, buy a forge and some propane tanks...

Todd,

It's a pretty simple mod to a forced air setup. Key is gas volume. Need to run from a 1" or 3/4" source feed rather than a 1/2" feed. This is how I run my forge now. PM me if you want to talk on the phone to get you up and running on NG.

Thanks, Deker and Eric. I thought at least at one time Darren offered a choice of propane or natural gas, I’ll try calling him again Monday. I use a homemade propane forge at home, but in the studio there is at least a ¾” natural gas line, one branch goes to a gas/air annealing torch and the other used to run, I think a melting furnace for casting (removed a few years ago), so natural gas is available and basically free. The deadline to get a proposal together and turned in, it will be awhile before it is approved and we can get the money. Thanks for the walk through offer Eric, we end up getting this, I may take you up on it.
