Check out the video to see all the movement in the wood. The video is taken under a bright halogen light so it shows more contrast than you would see in a normal room but it's what it looks like when you look at it in the sun.

Here's a design I've been working on for a while. I wanted a hunter style that would be versatile enough to work for anything from squirrels to whitetail. I made it a little pointier since I usually skin my deer pretty warm so I don't need a big belly for skinning. The sharper tip is good for joint work and smaller animals. It works pretty good on fish too, but it's a little thick. Haven't gotten any birds since I've made this design but it should work really well on them.

Thanks for looking!

btw: there's a couple of extra stitch holes on the front of the sheath that didn't get used. They're not very noticeable (I didn't even see them when I was stitching the sheath, which is why they are unused) but I wanted to point them out in case it wasn't obvious from the pictures.

You're killing me! I'm holding out for one of your full-on WI products, otherwise this knife is simply awesome! I love the look, love the steel, love the size but I must resist temptation. I could have sworn i just posted about the torturous nature of your craftsmanship...great work!!

Mike,

Very nice offering! Nice look in the video.

What edge is on this knife (FFG, hollow,....) and in-house HT? What hardness...?

Feel free to email me.

Thanks

Thanks magnumb. It has a ffg edge and is heat treated by me. I don't have a hardness tester, but the recipe I used should put the hardness at about 58-59.

Thanks Mike!

I'll need to ponder this for a bit. New to ELMAX, even though I've read quite a bit about it. Seems to be a great SS. Generally a CPM 154 guy, but have no aversions to the newer steel offerings.

ELMAX seems to do quite well in the 60-62 range, from several reports. Sharpening it might not be quite as fun, however.....LOL

Wow i've been salivating over an Elmax and you dropped the bomb.

Elmax is probably the toughest SS in the market now and i hope to find a piece long and wide enough for a trailblazing fun.

I bought this excellent work of art from Mike and just received it today. It is gorgeous. I have one of his neck knives coming in probably tomorrow and am looking forward to it.

His knives are not only among the finest craftsmanship that I see on the Exchange, but he goes the EXTRA step of using modern stainless steels and supersteels normally only found in very expensive production or custom folders. I do believe that Mike is showing us the "cutting" edge (not intentional) of technology along with the finest of custom knives.

A new hero in my book.
thanx, Mike, for such a great fixed blade.
Don
