Email program went Ka-boom!

Gary_B I am interested in making a M43 model later on.

Right now, though, am trying to find new email software that's right for me. ( Simple, stable, and stays the same instead of adding on every new bell and whistle of the week that comes along. )

Apparently Bill Gates has heard the phrase "If it works, don't fix it..." and declared war on it. May he suffer the death of a thousand cuts, and wake up in the center pit of hell.

I'll be back on email sooner or later.

I have a 15 year old Atari in my closet that I think I'll start using. With it I can type and play 'Pac Man', what more could anyone want?

No problem Rusty, give me a shout in the new year and we can discuss it further.

Best,

Gary.

The ( Merrill's Marauders ) Burma theatre WWII khuk of course, big bro.

#^!)*(@&%$@!!!

Either the consarned post aint there when I look, or it goes and double posts.

If it turns out, the M43 copy could be cataloged as the HI MM ( for Merrrill's Maurauders ) although it technically is still a WWII khuk.

Wiped Netscape 6 and reloaded Netscape 4.7. Problems solved.

Netscape 6 is a huge POS. I tried it out of curiousity and spent 3 days un-hosing my computer. I can't believe they released that thing the way it is.

I do not have the slightest idea what you guys are talking about but I'm glad it worked out! It sounds like a P38 space modulator problem!

Pine and Forte Agent are generally well-regarded e-mail clients. Pine can be downloaded from the University of Washington (for PCs, click the PC-Pine link). Forte Agent can be downloaded from the Forte Web site; it is not free, but it is cheap, and there is a trial version available. (Forte also has a free version called Free Agent, but that is only for newsreading.)

I've set up Pine on my PC, but haven't used it much, being fortunate enough to be able to use a Sun workstation at work.

Yahoo has an incomplete list of e-mail software at http://dir.yahoo.com/Computers_and_Internet/Software/Internet/Email/ .

Netscape 6 has lots of bright ideas and other good stuff, but the pre-release version I looked at still needs work. And I never did like Netscape's e-mail interface anyway.

Khukuri-related question: If Microsoft designed khukuris, what do you think they'd look like?

Can't tell. The Beta version blade is still being forged, and for the handle, you'll have to wait for update #1

Things going OK so far. Am looking at about 3 other mail programs.

<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">"If Microsoft designed khukuris, what do you think they'd look like?"</font>
The basic blade would be OK, but it would be more expensive than necessary because it would only be available with a complete set of little tools, most of which you didn't use or could find better if you bought them separately. And whenever you really needed to use it in a hurry, the blade would stick in the scabbard and could only be released by simultaneously depressing the karda and chakma

.

Microsoft would bind all the belt manufacturers to contracts so everyone who bought a belt in the US would be forced to pay for the current Microsoft Scabbard whether he wanted it or not. The scabbards would be identified by the year, Microsoft Scabbard 95, Microsoft Scabbard 98, Microsoft Scabbard 98 Second Edition, Microsoft Scabbard 2000, etc. Alternating versions would be shipped full of bugs, but no one would be allowed to buy the previous version with a belt, only the current version of Microsoft Scabbard whether it's crawling with little six-legged critters or not. Even the best Microsoft Scabbards would be the worst scabbards available.

Microsoft would also try to sell khukuris and other tools to fit their scabbards, but they would be unable to force everyone to buy them so their only tool sales would be to suckers who fell for package deals, getting a complete set of lousy tools along with the Microsoft Scabbard and the belt.

Microsoft tools would have unsanitary handles that would spread viruses. (Anybody here using Microsoft Outlook Express as your email program? Anybody use Microsoft Internet Explorer? Anybody have Microsoft Word installed on your hard drive [whether you've ever used it or not]? If you answered yes to any of those questions ... I hope you update your antivirus software at least once a week, and download and install every Microsoft Critical Update as soon as it comes out [preferably much sooner, but unfortunately that's impossible....])

All things considered ... we're better off with HI making khukuris.
