emailed CRK and they wrote right back

I've used mine evry day for the last 5 months and there's now a tiny bit of up/down play- but i attribute that to my incessant fiddling more than anything, i could even be imagining it it feels like such a small movement

How's the lock bar? All the way over to the other scale, or still on the blade tang?

A tiny bit of up and down play would drive me NUTS. My sebbie has absolutely no side to side movement, neither does my skirmish, but lots of folders do have a little side to side and that's normal with a lot of designs. But a little up and down movement means you don't have the lock bar tight up against the blade tang and that's not good. I wouldn't tolerate that on any of my knives.

Of the three Sebenzas I've had, all of them were around 50% to 75%, but all of them could also be easily pushed all the way to the other side with a little force. I assume this is normal. They all have among the best lockup I've ever seen, and haven't shown a hint of play, so it does not bother me. If anything, it will just take a little less time for the lock to eventually over-travel and need to be sent in. It's no big deal.

The only thing that will wear out is the blade with repeated sharpenings. I think the owner of Gfeller Casemakers who makes all the leather sheaths for CRK knives is still on his original Sebenza but uses his knife for everything so he's on like his 3rd blade.

I get 95% lockup, but I feel safer with it, and pushing it over still feels great.

Less that 60% actually terrifies me. I love my lockup, and it's the reason I will never order a higher end folder of the internet. I like being able to see the lockup.

One thing you might give a try would be to very lightly loosen all the screws
holding the knife closed in my left hand with the lock bar towards my palm
and my thumb gripping the lock bar side of the scale near the butt of the handle
I will sort of side shift the scales, there is a VERY slight amount of play within
the drilled out holes that will allow the scales to shift so to speak and might get
you the 75% you're shooting for, I do that when ever I have to dismantle a knife
and it is part of my reassembly procedure.

Just remember you are trying to PULL the lock bar side closer to the pivot pin
while PUSHING the other scale AWAY from the pivot pin, and you'll get the idea.

I do that with my left hand while the right hand will tighten down one of the screws.

Good luck,
G2
