I have two small brass suns I was thinking about putting on a handle - one on each side. They're slightly raised, so you would be able to feel them, but because of the placement and the knife, I think it would compliment the grip.

Are raised embelishments a no-no? If I tried to countersink them, it would be messy and I would lose that little leverage advantage I was liking. They're only about 1/2" in diameter.

the cool thing about knife making is that if you like it then there is no "no-No's" but with out seeing the sun's it would be hard to tell. one rule of thumb is the anything thing that is small if its raised can cause blisters on the Handel if its meant to be a working knife.

Do what ever the heck you want. Experiment! You'll either love it or hate it and never do it again - either way you learned something. Plus, Japanese knives and swords commonly have a menuki under the wrap, which adds grip by fitting nicely into the palm swell. It might feel more natural to only have something raised on the side that will be in your palm, but every handle is different. I personally don't like big bulky handles, but some people do.
