It seems to pour when it rains round these parts. I hate to hear bout other's troubles, tribulations and experiences that tests one's endurance, patience, or faith, but I have to just rant for a moment.

This isn't a sympathy plea, cop out, or excuse, but a rant about how chit isn't always perfect and that smile and perfect schedule get kicked out door without a moments notice and all you can do is Embrace the Suck.

I was pulling some out of state overnight work trips...( I love leaving my young son for days at a time:rolleyes:) Driving all over the Great Southern US all night (well tri state area) and on the last night ...my truck refuses to start at 1:30 in the AM....around 3...we give up, I have it towed 98 miles back home...and it's a miracle...it starts as soon as it gets off the tow truck..service can't find a damn thing wrong. A day later while my wife and child are in it...it shuts down again, they finally are able to pinpoint the era....a complete fuel system (pump/filter/relay/ some damned hose) all go awry. So we borrow the MIL vehicle.....something new....something different. Well the wife lock the keys in the car while Lex is in the back seat......Southern Louisiana....6 weeks old in locked car......I instantly grab my CRK Sebie and bust the smallest rear glass possible...to the tune of 386 dollars! Rent a Car gives me a Minivan...Gravelface doesn't do Minis:grumpy: 3 days of coverage.....the part I need it a dealer only part and need to be ordered from Ontario!!!! 5 days of mini...3 covered extra $70. Warranty cover 900, I still have to cover $168 for the work provided.....

To relieve some of these burdens and stresses..I go to the gym..I break my normal weight lighting routine to do some cardio...Tony G inspired my to ride bikes.....well, while dismounting, I came up and off using my recently reconstructed knee only to have it bark at me in discontent:eek: I now have a limp and am writhing in pain as my pain meds are 5 days late :grumpy::grumpy: and VA can't get me an appointment to the Orthopedics till the 29th....HELLO!!!! Don't they know that is Blade:D

And what is with "instant gratification" what happened to the 4-6 week delivery time on anything? I remember when that was an industry standard, now it seems folks what Cpt. Kirk to beam you their Chit before it even post to paypal.......There are some Hogs here who I would drop what I am doing to help if they ask...why because they live life outside this keyboard and understand Suck happens.

My Grandfather (A Korean War Vet) just underwent emergency surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from his chest, yet he is out here trying to help my father and I lay floor and remodel his house for him so in his mind, when he goes, my grandma won't have to worry about the house.....he has Embraced the Suck and goes everyday with a smile on his face

Take it, Embrace it, you don't have to like it, but just make the best of it.

Rant off.

Oh yeah...I got the knife today.....Thanks Busse Crew!!!!

I do not know you, Gravelface, but others here do and respect you. Now, I do to. My life has been full of many blessing. Seven wonderful children, two of which were in rehab at 13 and are now living full, clean, complete lives with college degrees and children of their own. The strength of those who face adversity and overcome is an inspiration to me. Despite my many faults, the lord continues to bless me.
I can not afford most of the knives for sale here. I can not afford to not come here to this forum for my daily shot of inspiration, humor, and hogship. It is amazing how people from all over the world can be brought together by a bunch of knives.

:eek::eek: :grumpy: ... Ok, you've used up all that bad luck, now on to some GOOD KARMA!!! Damn, sorry to hear, Gravelface, and I certainly hope everything turns around and improves for you, and also your grandfather & entire family... Looking forward to seeing you at BLADE, hopefully the VA gets you some relief before then for your knee.

"When life hands you lemons... Grab the frakkin' VODKA!!"

Hang tough, brother, chit will get better. First round's on me in ATL.:thumbup:

damn, jason, that's a lot of crap coming down all at once. hang in there.

I volunteer to carry you from the parking lot to the Busse table at BLADE if you need me to!! You don't really need to go anywhere else do you? Hang in there bro.

Thanks the support, that that is what it is about. I could not be happier. I get to see my children's faces and the excitement washes away everything else. I still go to work and have the best damn possible day and love my wife with care and passion she deserves.

Embrace it......cause all that feeling is another way of looking remind you of life and how it does get better...I have to be at work in 3.5 hours....better get some sleep!

Hi Gravelface I don't have the right words for the story you have presented. It is a good story detailing the human spirit overcoming "the suck".

Reminds me of a t-shirt I had in high school... a picture of a bird of prey swooping down on a mouse, talons ready to kill, the little mouse flipping the bird to the bird. :D

Never let the bastards get you down.

Wow...that is a whole bunch of bad things happening all at once  Murphy's Law can be relentless at times  What doesn't kill us make us stronger  Hang in there man

Everyone faces adversity but what separates the men from the boys is your response. Do you bitch, moan and belly-ache or do you "Embrace the Suck", tackle the problem(s) and move on? Sometimes life cruises along smoothly and sometimes events seem to conspire to test your patience and ingenuity. Rough patch there, Gravelface, but you did indeed embrace the suck and get through it. I believe that this is what that philosopher meant when he said that which does not kill us makes us stronger. Pete

Hang in there, Jason. Sometimes the Suck is there to remind us to be grateful for the Good, but I'd say you've had enough reminder! A wish for better days, Brother Hog!

Everyone has some suckage to embrace, brother. Around my house right now the stress levels are astronomical. Both of my wife's parents are divorcing their respective partners, and my MIL is living with us. 2 family members dealing with cancer, one of them being told by the docs all they can do is try to make her comfortable. Wifey and I have spent the last 3 months trying to get all sorts of tests done so we can try artificial insemination (due to the fact that my receiving chemo last year destroyed my swimmers) and to top all of that off...I think I've missed a good 25 days of work this year due to exhaustion and illness. Man, if I were in any job OTHER than education, I'd have been fired LONG ago. Actually, if I were my boss I would probably STILL fire myself. :D

Don't let those of us emailing and bothering stress you out too badly. Some of us are indeed looking for that instant gratification, others are just concerned and want to be kept apprised. Myself...I'm one of the instant gratification crew, but I know your situation and hope all gets easier and more smooth for you. Keep your head up.

That is a lot of SUCK man... Sorry to hear about that. Chit always happens in bunches, but getting through it like you say, makes us stronger.

Anyway, just think... In 23/24 days, we'll all be in Atlanta, soaking up the INFI/SR 101/SR 77, Stogies, Single Malt, and good company! :D

There's not a man or woman on the face of the earth who doesn't face hard times. Repeatedly.

It seems to me that it's attitude that makes all the difference. These things are going to happen ... all you can control is how you face it.

How you got there doesn't matter. It's how you come out the other end that counts.

You're going to be just fine.:)

Nice post, Jamie.

Jason, I hope the Suck eases up for you ASAP. Hang in there, man.

Embrace it, it sounds like you've smacked it on the head and drug it to bed.

Times cures most everything and whisky has been known to help too.

Good luck and keep those kids smiling.

Embracing the Suck, dealing with it and wading through it while keeping one's chin up is what builds a strong respectable person. Jason you did well, and you will do well as a great father for your family.

Hope it all works out for you....I've been embracing the suck for a while, too!

Jason is one of those folks about whom I have no doubt how the end turns out. You'll get everything worked out. Go hug the lil Gravels and keep on kickin' the butt of anything that comes your way.

Our character isn't defined and realized during good times. During the bad, the true mettle of folks arises. Anyone that knows Jason does not doubt his mettle.

Let me know if you need anything, bro.

Gravelface, good to hear you are chin up and moving forward and enjoying life it is all we have!
