Embroidered patch in home made micarta?

Has anyone put an embroidered patch, like a military one, with regular cloth material to make scales? Would I be able to sand it down and it be readable? Has anyone done this? Thanks for any help.
 
You MIGHT cast it in resin and still be able to see/read it, but as far as pressing it into a piece of "mycarta", I agree with Stacy.
 
You could cast it in alumilite water clear. It's a near optically clear casting resin.
 
Thank you all for the reaponses, I am trying to incorporate the patch into the knife somehow.
 
If you can get a tie tack or lapel pin of the patch (usually possible if it is a common patch) you can use that as a shield on a handle material of your choice.
