Emerson A 100?

I completely disagree that Emerson's are not worth the price. Plus 1 on what Lapedog said, minus the part about having a knife with any issues. I have never had any issues with the ones I have owned.

I really like the 100, but have never owned one. It just looks like it would be kinda hard to open as there doesn't appear to be much room to get to the thumb plate. Any owners found that to be the case?

I'm being brutally honest here. I've had lock issues with a lot of the Emersons I've owned. To their credit the issues were resolved after a trip to harbor city. Honestly I think there is much room for emprovement. No hating here. I carry Emersons.

As have I.
I love most of Emerson's designs and am a big fan of Emerson knives in general. I have owned a few different models through the years and have had more issues with Emersons than any other brand I've owned multiples of.
That said, I would and will still buy Emersons in the future once I've had ample time to handle said knife.

I will say that the A100 is an interesting knife and looks to be a decent EDC.

My only Emerson is a Mini A-100, and I had a pretty serious case of buyer's remorse when it first arrived. The initial break-in period to get it to even passably smooth opening was far longer than that of any other folder I own, which I was then told is common with that model. I bought it for reliability and durability, and my hope is that in its limited role in an emergency kit that hopefully won't see much or any use, it would prove to be the "tank" it is claimed to be by Emerson fans. I like the design, but if I had it to do over again, I don't know that I'd go with the Mini A-100. I would hope that the full-sized version is somehow easier to open.

I just got the full-size A-100 a few days ago and I love it. Super sharp, easy in and out of the pocket, perfect size for me (roughly the size of a Buck 110). What's not to love.

I've long thought the A-100 is a cool design, especially the larger version. But to be absolutely truthful, for me personally, I've never found that Emersons cut any better (or even as well as) any other brand. And I'll probably get some flak for this, but for me, they have been the least efficient at cutting, and I've owned 7 or 8 of them over the years since the late 1990s. And I've really given them chances off and on over the years.

Now, I'm sure someone might say I just don't know how to use knives with single-sided edge bevels, and they would be wrong. For only one example, my saber-ground, fully-serrated Delica 4 cuts like crazy and with ease, and that's definitely a chisel-edged blade. It's not a super thinly-ground blade, either. There is no 'trick' to cutting more efficiently with it; it simply cuts and cuts. Maybe the Emersons are simply thicker blades with a more obtusely-ground edge bevel. The thing is, I WANTED them to work for me, but I guess that everyone's experiences will be different.

Jim
