Emerson and ZT knives

I do like the larger size of the ZT, I EDC a Buck Strider as well as several other large folders so I am comfortable (so far) with the size. The 0200 is definitely on my short list.

What's all this emerson bashing around here :p

I really like my emersons, they aren't all chisel grinds which is what I keep seeing on here. They are mostly all cut at a "V" grind, just one side is done more over than the other. This actually seems to make the edgs last substantially longer than a fully done V grind. The CQC-7 lineup are typically chisel ground, which means that one side is completely flat while the other has the buldges and grind.

Now, if I were you and I had about $200 to spend, I would get either a ZT 0500 or a ZT 0301

Both are excellent knives and you can't go wrong with either.

Ease of Warranty I'd go Kershaw. Ease of carry, I'd go Emerson. I have had both ZT's (300 and 200) and a Spec Bump. I have since moved those along and still have an Emerson or two as they have a slimmer profile and carry less weight. I wouldn't use them near as hard as the Kershaw's however.

EDC'd emerson qcq-14 for 2 years and then switched to ZT 301 for the last year.

no lock-up problems on the emerson,i just got lucky.there is side to side blade play on the emerson while there is absolutely zero blade play on the 301 and of coarse with the frame lock there is no lock-up probs. with the 301.

i had to re-grind the edge on the cqc-14 because i dont like the chisel grind.now its good.

the 301's only down fall is size and weight.other than that its one hell of a knife.biggest & baddest folder i've ever held.

the only good thing about the emerson is its small and light and the WAVE feature is good if you really intend on having it for self defense, other than that its annoying and a hindrance since it opens everytime you remove it from your pocket.

i would go with a spyderco or benchmade before an emerson.they have way to many lock-up problems for a knife thats supposed to be "tactical" and way to much blade play for a $200 knife with a chisel grind.

i ditched the 301 for a strider.it has everything that the 301 has but is a more manageable size and weight.

i like the 2.7in blade on the qcq-14 for the times i need to be PC or somewhere with 3in blade restrictions but other than that i'm done with emerson folders, not impressed at all,and for $200:thumbdn:

After carrying the CQC-7 Super for a while, I found myself wrapping my middle finger around the back of the blade when I didn't want the knife to open. I am still doing that and haven't carried the Emerson for 3-4 months.:)

I don't carry a knife for self defense but do like one hand opening.

I just picked up a Benchmade Grip. and really like it. Still holding out for an Emerson Mini Commander, though.

I've had excellent luck with the Emersons I've owned. I still carry a CQC-12 occasionally - it is a smaller and easier carry, and cuts just as big as the ZT's. My lock engages until the entire lockbar is on the tang (some folks think this is an issue, but if you want a strong lock, wouldn't you want to use the full strength of the lockbar?), and sticks a tiny little bit when unlocking, but it don't bother me enough to send it back - Maybe I'll think about it after another 30,000 open and close cycles. :D
