Emerson chisel grind observation

i've edc'd LH CG's (ie most any EKI) and RH CG's (ie BM stryker proto CG) of the tanto style and while i admit to maybe a small amount of difference between the 2 imho its not much, certainly not as much difference as between a RH or LH CG and something more of the "V" persuasion like a spyderco lum tanto with the IIRC "appleseed" grind, now that makes some difference.

if i was gonna edc a CG tanto be it LH or RH grind the 1st thing i would do is get it kreined, since that makes it more like a 2 edge zero bevel grind ya can get it a lot sharper than the typical 3 edge grind ya find on EKI produtions, albeit ya have a bit thinner edge more prone to chipping, maybe, its gonna be really really sharp. i wish EKI would make it an option to grind there std CG's like that, ZBG, they do grind a lot like that on the customs, though i can get a std CG plenty sharp the ZBG is always gonna be sharper, and since i rarely do any cutting which could chip i dont worry about that at all.

while some say a CG isnt any good for utilty i edc'd a EKI SOCFK tanto for ~ a year and didnt ever wish i woulda had a "V" grind while using it even once, i guess most of my cutting unvolves rough cutting, not fine, and anything w/a sharp edge will do the trick, if i have some fine cutting to do i get out an exacto knife or something, i also edc'd the stryker CG for a while, same thing, it did any cutting i required it to do, no problems, i simply dont think it did it much (any?) better than a similar EKI. i am RH FWIW.

Its not so much the cutting ability that turns me off as the aesthetics. I simply cannot warm up to a knife that is blank on one side. Knives are an art form as much as a tool and for me symmetry is a big part of that.

That said Emerson have some of the greatest folder designs ever but I wish the chisel grind thing had never happened.

Yea... too bad Emerson can't sell any of those chisel grind knives. :o
:yawn::D

Wow, finally a company that caters completely to the left-handed user....awesome :thumbup:
I don't know about others, but I am "primarily" left-handed, which means having adapted to a right-handed world, I can be a righty when necessary. Sometimes it confuses the mind.............for instance, when I eat with a fork I use left hand. But when using chopsticks (Chinese Restaraunts, etc.) I go with the right hand.
But I digress.
Now I will have to buy more of those problematic Emerson knives :D
