Ordered a CQC-10 yesterday, from an ebay seller named "etmcollectables." Yes, I know he spelled "collectibles" wrong, but I'll let it slide... ;) Anybody dealt with this guy before? If so, good/bad/ugly?

I decided on black finish, plain edge (don't quite know why... I just have a preference for plain edge over PS. Full Spyderedge is a different story, though  ).

Obviously, Emerson makes nice stuff, and I know it'll be great, but I was wondering if anyone has this particular model yet? How do you like it, especially compared to their other knives (CQC-7, commander, etc.)?

Can't wait!

Peace.

Well,... since you asked

First off, congrats on your first Emerson knife! I'm a big fan of Ernie's designs.

As, for "etmcollectables" I think he is SHADY!

I ordered a Emerson HD-7 off him for $142.99 "Buy it now!" and payed for immediately with Pay Pal. I thought that was a pretty good ebay price for one. At the time, in fact I already had an lightly used/good shape HD-7 that I got for just over a hundred here on this forum. Interestingly, one sold today on another forum for $100 as well. Mind you, I didn't know if etmcollectables was a dealer or just a private collector. I did think an NIB HD-7 for less than $150 was a great ebay deal.

Anyway, I get a ebay message from him telling me "he made a mistake" on the price, which is fine (but some people honor there mis-quoted prices). I also get a notice from Pay Pal that my payment was refused. What really steamed me is that he said somthing to the effect that I should tell ebay, (because they want to know if a transaction was not completed) that I "returned" the knife because of a "flaw", a knife I never recieved. Now I'm not in a habit of being dishonest, and I don't appreciate him asking me to be or for putting words in my mouth.

Had he said to me, 'listen I'm really sorry -I hit a 1 instead of a 2 and I'm selling for below what I have in it', and not asked me to be dishonest that would have been fine. As it was it was a long drawn out process, to get the matter settled when all the while I wasn't in the wrong he was! Another thing, I was using my wifes account, and trying to build her postitve feedback and this happend, needless to say she wasn't very happy about this either.

I think "etmcollectibles" is not honorable.

This is just what happend to me, and I hope it doesn't happen to you, or anyone else -but I would watch out for a seller like this.

Hey, thanks for the heads-up, Scott.
I don't want to jinx anything by saying this, but I've sent him two messages so far and have not received a reply to either one. I hope it turns out ok... He's got a lot of positive feedback on his account, so I figured I'd be safe, but we'll see.

Peace.

Hi Alex,
Cool, I'm sure it will work out for you. Keep us posted.

Oh, you asked about the CQC-10 compared to the Commander and CQC-7, I think the '10 is a good bet for all around utlity, because it is a double V-ground blade (w/chisle edge) and drop point blade. It does not have the "exotic" recurve of the Commander or the chisle grind of the angular CQC-7. But hey, mostly I love them all.

Thanks,
Scott

I like it for the conventional V grind. I like that over the chisel grind except for ease of sharpening maybe. I've learned to use both but the V is preferred for me.

Today, I received a package in the mail... It was my Emerson! Initially, I was skeptical of the ebay seller, due to some communication delays, but I'm extremely pleased that he shipped it so quickly!

This knife is a tank. It's my first Emerson, and I'm hooked. I love the thick-a$$ spearpoint, and the Wave is really cool. The G-10 scales are incredibly thick, and the locking liner is plenty thick as well (slightly thicker than the other, non-locking liner). The lock works perfectly (I've heard a few reports of Emerson's linerlocks going too far over, or not far enough... This one's perfect.) Totally solid lockup. It's going to replace my Benchmade 710 as my EDC (at least for now -- we'll see what happens).

If you haven't gotten an Emerson yet, do it! :D

Peace.

I'm glad you got it and love it. Sounds like you got the very latest generation of Emerson with the thick lock/thin liner verion. Very cool.
