Dear Members,

We have gotten a number of inquiries regarding our HD Knives, the HD-7 and the HD-12 models in particular. I have also seen several posts speculating as to the reasons why or why not they are available.

The HD-7’s and the HD-12’s are not discontinued. I have several hundred blades for each model ready to go. They reason they are few and far between is simply this. We have a huge volume of orders for our other catalog models and that volume is growing every month. We are very lucky in these economic times to be in the position we are in. I thank you all for your continued support.

Anyway, we are set up and tooled up to produce our standard models and our machines are running every waking hour to fill our orders. I need to schedule machine time on Sundays just to build our gun grips and other firearms accessories. So, to build the HD models requires a different setup and tooling and requires 2-3 days of machine time to cut, mill, and finish both G-10 and Titanium handle slabs for the HD knives. We just don’t have any extra days. I will be building more HD knives, both the 7’s and 12’s but it will be when I decide to break into our current schedule to do so. Which, I will do at some time.

Now, there are those who have said “The ABDC + D Company has all kinds of different knife models and locks. Why can’t Emerson just do that? If they can, he should be able to.”

The reason is that we don’t have our knives made in China. I don’t just sit in an office and make a phone call to order a thousand models x’s and a thousand model y’s. I never will.

Our knives are made in right here in my factory, right beneath my office. I design the knives. I build the prototypes and I test the knives. Hell, I even build some of the production models when we are in a pinch.

So, yes I will be building more HD knives. I like them a lot. I carried an HD-12 for over 3 years. So, it’s not economics. It’s not material. It’s not difficult. It’s certainly not popularity. It’s all about time. We are building more knives this year than this company has ever built. The factory and the people are working like a well oiled machine, so I’m not going to break our rhythm right now. But yes, I will be building both HD-7’s and HD-12’s sometime in the future. Don’t despair, if you are an HD fan, just keep your eyes on our website and your fingers crossed. They will be back.

That’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it.

Best Regards,

Ernest R. Emerson

That's flippin awesome!
Will they be available with both handle slabs in titanium?
I NEED an Emerson Comrade with dual titanium slabs.:)

That is good news

One has to wonder why people claim to have been told other wise by EKI

Great news. Time to start saving for a non waved stone washed serrated HD7.

Great news! Super!

I think folks got confused when many of the knife dealers listed the HD's as discontinued.
There's a difference between a dealer discontinueing a knife and the manufacturer discontinueing it. At any rate, it's all better now.

I am very happy to hear that these will continued to be made by EKI.

I carry a CQC-12 most every day myself and this is one fine folder. I have owned and currently own several of the EKI line-up and the 12 is a prince of a knife!

The ergos, blade profile, locking mechanism and general ease with which this knife can be carried and deployed mean it is my all-time EKI number one.

Every EKI fan should own at least one HD!

This is good news. Would love to see a frame lock CQC 7 or Super 7 with a spearpoint blade and a wave.

That's two rumor-destroying threads in here in one day.

We need a "Just the Facts" sticky at the top of this forum.

I want a stonewash plain edge HD7 so bad. Please do them this year, Mr Emerson!

Yes and still listing them that way but also Emerson's own web site probably contributed to the rumor, even if unintentionally and only in a small way by their own listing of 'Out of Stock' for both the HD models and for how many months running now? I've lost track. Maybe it would be better to list them as temporarily out of stock next time so as to prevent feeding the fire of rumor next time.

I'm sure when a dealer heard the rumor and looked there at EKI's webpage that it was like putting two and two together. Some dealers even jacked up their prices tremendously selling what they had left at a premium. :thumbdn:
